New restaurant spaces and dining concepts announced at The Grove, Hertfordshire, for 2023

This Spring, Hertfordshire hotel and spa, The Grove will launch a host of new restaurant spaces and dining concepts as part of their 20th anniversary celebrations . 

Madhu’s at The Grove

Following a complete redesign, Madhu's, the authentic Indian dining experience in the heart of The Grove’s mansion, has unveiled a new menu and makeover. Inspired by Lodhi Gardens in New Delhi, Clique Design Studio has weaved The Grove’s fabric of royal heritage, large enclosures and nature into the new design of the restaurant. 

The Stables

In partnership with StudioJill, The Stables Bar, Terrace and Courtyard have been redesigned to make the most of the outdoor space and enhance the dining experience. The Stables Bar has been extended, creating a private area for small groups when required, also allowing for 32 additional seats. The outdoor areas feature chic new furnishings, including high and low-level seating, parasols and manicured garden features, alongside a bespoke bar complete with a pergola in the courtyard. 

The new menu under Head Chef Matthew Hurry will offer guests great British classics, redefined and featuring produce from The Grove’s Jemima’s Kitchen Garden as well as local suppliers who are committed to the regenerative agriculture movement as part of the hotel’s wider commitment to a more sustainable future. 

Feast on Cloud 9 

This summer, guests are invited to The Grove’s latest immersive dining experience in partnership with Feast on Cloud 9. A range of hand-crafted hot air balloons with vintage-style wicker dining baskets will be set by the water exhibit in the Formal Gardens. The balloons will be available each day for either afternoon tea or a nine-course gourmet tasting menu. Tables are available for Feast on Cloud 9 at The Grove from 9 June - 3 September 2023. 

The culinary news from The Grove team follows shortly after the announcement of the complete renovation of the hotel’s 16th Century Mansion suites and rooms, which is set to be unveiled in late Spring 2023, alongside the renovations at Sequoia Spa and launch of Bamford at The Grove. This year also marks The Grove’s 20th Anniversary.

Inside Lidl’s strategy for in-store bakery (and how suppliers can help)

Lidl is making a major play for in-store bakery and it’s not afraid to shout about it. The discounter – which is currently the sixth largest grocer in the UK by market share [Statista] – recently overtook Tesco to secure the biggest slice of in-store bakery (ISB). Data from Kantar showed that Lidl, which was crowned  Bakery Retailer of the Year  at the 2023 Baking Industry Awards, had pipped the UK’s largest supermarket  with 18.2% of the ISB market compared to Tesco’s 18%. Speaking at the British Society of Baking conference earlier this year, Holly Bleach, head of buying at Lidl, described bakery as “critical” to Lidl as it’s one of the categories that drives overall customer satisfaction. “We’re set up to be really successful in bakery in the UK due to the prominence of our bakeries in store.
