Ahold Delhaize-owned Albert Heijn is set to start opening unmanned ‘to go’ convenience food units in offices across the Netherlands in partnership with vending machine provider Selecta.

The AH to go modules are tailor-made to offer various convenient food and drink options to office workers via a self-service, digital-based system.

In the coming weeks, the first twenty to go’s will open at various office locations in the Netherlands. The concept will also cross the border to Belgium with roll-out to at least 25 offices later this year.

Albert Heijn and Selecta stated that they wanted to open unmanned to go units at least 100 office locations this year and to expand jointly in the years ahead.

In addition to offices, the concept is said to be well suited to hotels, hospitals, and educational institutions.

The two firms first announced their plans for the concept at the end of last year. At the time, Marit van Egmond, CEO of Albert Heijn said: “Our aim is to be available to our customers any time anywhere. Around the corner, along the way and online. With a variety of good food, consistent value for money and great convenience.

“There are many opportunities to expand our network in the Netherlands and Flanders. In co-operating with Selecta, we will be addressing the changing needs in office environments. With this ground-breaking Albert Heijn concept, we are taking the next step in the world of out-of-home consumption.”
