Nottingham-based coffee roasters 200 Degrees Coffee has announced that its 12th coffee shop will open in The Hybrid Building, Mosley Street, Manchester towards the end of May.
The 80-seat shop will be on the expansive ground floor of this new office development just off St Peter’s Square, next door to the Art Gallery, and will create 15 new full time and part time jobs.
200 Degrees director, Tom Vincent, sees this as part of the coffee roaster’s rapid return to growth post-Covid. He said: “It may seem a bit strange to open a coffee shop in a city full of great coffee shops at a time like this but we hope our independent feel and relaxed, comfortable style will add something memorable to the city. We’re also keen to show off our own hand roasted coffee and tempt people with our freshly made sandwiches and vegan brownies.
“We’ve wanted to bring 200 Degrees to Manchester for many years and have finally found the perfect location – we’re excited to share this new design which for the first time will see our Barista School in the heart of the shop.
“Our Barista Schools are very popular with enthusiasts and professionals alike and we offer courses ranging from simple home brew methods to advanced barista techniques. With this one we’ve expanded our partnerships with Sage Appliances and also Victoria Arduino, who make the world’s best coffee machines, and they will be installing four Eagle One Prima espresso machines to learn on. We aim to make this one of the best barista schools in the UK with a full range of courses, talks from experts, machine demonstrations and regular barista throw downs where we’ll invite all of the baristas in the area to compete for some very desirable plastic trophies. We hope it’s going to be something quite special for everyone to enjoy.”
Giovanni Fucili from Victoria Arduino, added: “Once quarantine is over and Italians can freely visit the UK again, I look forward to going clubbing at the Hacienda.”
200 Degrees was set up by Tom and his business partner Rob Darby in 2012 and has 11 ‘distinctively independent’ coffee shops as well as its roast house near Trent Bridge in Nottingham. The company is due to announce further plans for growth including more coffee shops to open later this year.
The new Hybrid Building, Mosley Street. Coffee shop will open on 17th May. Opening times are 8am - 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am - 7pm on Saturdays and 9am - 5pm on Sundays (subject to Covid regulations).
